41st Annual Reunion
Novotel, 19, rue de Zurich, Geneva, Switzerland, 11-13 May 2018
The OVS Organizing Committee and the Members living in and around Geneva are very excited by the prospect of welcoming you, for the first time ever in BAFUNCS history, to Geneva, the European capital of the UN and the Specialized Agencies. Many of you will come and retrace your steps of old, maybe with a bit of nostalgia. Others have no previous links with the City of Calvin but will be impressed by its orderliness and the beauty of the lake front, the quaint character of the old town and the luxury of its shops. The flyer which we hope you have all received by e-mail if you were not at the King’s Lynn Reunion tells you more of what there will be to do for those who can spend a little more time. To top it all, our past and present presidents have been able to persuade Kofi Annan to be our keynote speaker for the Saturday morning, while David Harland, Director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, is our Sunday morning speaker.
The Reunion will take place in the Novotel (Genève Centre) which is part of the Accor hotel chain (beware, because Geneva has more than one Novotel.) It is located at 19, rue de Zurich, close to the Cornavin main railway station where all trains from the airport stop and in the middle of an area that has cafes, and small shops a few minutes away from the Lake with its lovely promenade. The Novotel is a modern hotel with well-equipped and light rooms. All rooms have a safe, coffee and tea making facilities, minibar (mineral water is free, but other drinks need to be paid for) and a hairdryer. There is free Wi-Fi and toiletries are available in the bathrooms. The hotel has a spa (free for guests), but no swimming pool. There is free underground parking for all meeting participants, but the garage is of limited height (1.70 m). The main entrance into the Lobby has a few steps down from street level, but there is a lift for those that need it and hotel staff will assist to operate it. All residents will receive a free public transport pass for Geneva from the hotel reception, courtesy of the Geneva Tourist Board. This allows you to use all city public transport including the Mouette Genevoise (the little ferry that goes across the lake from Paquis to Molard ). See also under “Travel” below for free transport into town from the airport on your arrival.
