5th Memorial Event for Humanitarian Aid Workers on Thursday 16 August 2018

Dear Friends,

By kind permission of the Dean & Chapter of Westminster I am pleased to invite you to join us for the 5th Memorial Event for Humanitarian Aid Workers on Thursday 16th August 2018, in connection with World Humanitarian Day, at Westminster Abbey. The event will begin with Evensong (4.40pm for 5.00pm start) in the Abbey. This is open to all, but there is no requirement for you to attend the service if you would prefer to join us immediately afterwards (6.00pm start) for the wreath-laying ceremony. This takes place outside the Abbey at the Memorial for Innocent Victims of Oppression, Violence and War and lasts approximately 30 minutes. The wreath-laying ceremony will not be nationality- or faith-based and is also open to all those who would like to attend.

The memorial event seeks to honour those who died in the service of humanitarianism, to recognise our common humanitarian ideals and to celebrate the spirit that continues to inspire humanitarian action around the globe. It is intended as an occasion to enable families, friends, colleagues and organisations to pay their tribute to humanitarians past and present. We would be delighted if you would join us for the memorial event, and we encourage you to send this invite more widely to relevant friends and networks.

We would like to contact you further about this event but if you do not wish to receive any further communications, please let us know by replying to this email.

If you would like to attend the memorial this year, please respond to this email and provide us with your updated address so that we can send you an invite in the post.

With every good wish,

Sir John Holmes
Chair of the Steering Committee,
Memorial for Humanitarian Aid Workers
