Northern Region Activities

30 September – 02 October

This year we will be staying in Kingston-Upon-Hull, at the Kingston Theatre Hotel (, to take advantage of their City of Culture status for 2017.

We plan to check in on Saturday, 30 September and check out on Monday 2 October, a total of two nights.

The cost of the rooms includes breakfast, bed and dinner, tea/coffee plus scones on arrival, and cocktails on the second night. The rates are as follows:

1. Classic double rooms £99. Total for 2 nights + tea/coffee: £202.95
2. Executive rooms £119. Total for two nights + tea/coffee: £242.95
3. King Studio/Junior suites £159. Total for two nights + tea/coffee: £322.95
4. Single rooms £66.95. Total for two nights + tea/coffee: £138.85 sold out!
These single rooms are rather small and do not have much of a view.

The hotel only has 30 rooms in total so do hurry and make your reservations with the Kingston Theatre Hotel at 01482 225828, asking for the BAFUNCS rate.

The programme will include:

• a theatre performance, the Kings of Hull, on the Saturday night at the newly renovated New Theatre, which is just across the square from our hotel;

• visits to the Wilberforce House Museum, which explores the history of slavery;

• and the Deep, a futurisitic aquarium which is also hosting a special exhibition of marine art.

Members who sign up to join will at a later date receive more detailed information about the planned activities and excursions.

For those who are interested in art, a visit can be made to the Ferens Art Gallery which is hosting the Turner Prize, as well as other art installations around the city. Poetry lovers can visit the Library at Hull University to see an exhibition of Philip Larkin’s work, and those who like to walk can take a stretch across the Humber Bridge while listening to a special commissioned piece of music. Take a look at City of Culture website to see what other events are taking place:

Please remember to submit the Registration Form to Nikki Feirn, so we know how many participants to expect and can plan the excursions.

By Long Standing Tradition, this Event is Open to all BAFUNCS Members

In November 2016, the Greater Edinburgh Sub-Region organized a very successful lunch at the Signet Library in Edinburgh, and participants exchanged views on how BAFUNCS could best serve the interests of its members in terms of organizing events. This is a particularly challenging question for the NOR Region, given the wide geographic distribution of members.
